How Can I set up my own Alogolia account?

If your BloomCU support contract is ending, you may wish to continue using Algolia for your website search. To do this, you will need to create your own Algolia account, and then BloomCU can help you make some changes to your website theme files to ensure a seamless transition.

To get started, please take the following steps:

  1. If you haven't, please create a ticket at support.bloomcu.com and let our support team know that you want to move to your own Algolia account.
  2. Next, please go to algolia.com and create an account. Just so you know, a free account is fine for getting started, but you will need to set up payment information before we can push the code changes to production.
  3. Once your account is created, please follow the steps at https://www.algolia.com/ecommerce-merchandising-playbook/set-up-permissions/ to add support@bloomcu.com as a team user on your Algolia account and update the ticket you created in step 1
  4. From here, we begin an out-of-scope request to start updating your theme files. In most cases, this will be at most 1-2 billable hours, but this could vary depending on the complexity of your search configuration. This step consists of the following:
    1. We will index your dev site to the new index for testing
    2. We will update your child theme files to use the new index on dev.
    3. You will log in to Algolia and ensure you can see and interact with the newly created index.
    4. Once confirmed, you must ensure you are on a paid Algolia plan before proceeding. Algolia's "Grow" Plan is the cheapest production-ready option and will work for most users. Please get in touch with Algolia support if you have questions or are unsure which plan is right for you.
    5. We will index your production site and release the code changes once your plan is updated. At this point, you will be on your own Algolia index.

Please note: This setup includes only a 1:1 recreation of your current setup. If additional features/modifications are needed, you must work with Algolia support to implement them once the migration is complete.
